Learning to Swim.....

As I watched from the side, I knew…
There was nothing I could do to help her.

Her eyes held both hesitation and fear.

She’s learning to swim, I’m learning to trust.
Trust someone else with my everything,
it’s anything but simple.

As she struggled I realized; this lesson is the sort of lesson that I struggle to give her.
The room to struggle, to fail, to struggle, and fail.
For now this is work better left in the hands of someone willing,
willing to let her learn to trust herself.

She’s learning, I’m learning.
Learning she needs to know her limitless capabilities,
not her father’s…..

Sink or swim, struggle, fail, fall down-
rise once again.

A hopeful breath in a fleeting moment with our heads barely above the tide.

Learning to swim is learning to live.

She’s learning to trust in herself, and so am I.
Soon those wings will carry her to unimaginable heights.

For now I’m content to sit on the side, holding my breath that she is alright.

Fighting my nature to give her the room she needs, to learn and grow;
to struggle, to triumph.

Here’s to the lessons that everyday teach,
we never know what we can do until we extend beyond our reach,
beyond our comfort.
